How to check if a link is safe before opening it.

Most scams begin with a link. We teach you to read it in ten seconds and to check it with our tool, without opening it.

LinksPractical guideThe Team Ovnar

Where to look: the part that matters

The real web is what goes just before the first “/”, and in particular the last two parts: https://cuenta.bbva.es.verifica-ya.com/login The real web is by verifica-ya.comNot the bbva.es. The scammers put the name of a brand at the beginning so that you can see it, but what commands is the end.

Signs that a link is suspicious

  • Imitating a Brand: «bbva-seguridad.com», «correos-envios.top», «amazon-es-pedidos.com».
  • Changed Lettersby paypa1.com (a 1 instead of l), rnicrosoft.com (r+n instead of m), paypaI.com (i major).
  • Unusual extensions such as .top, .xyz, .click or .shop becoming going through banks or administrations.
  • Short links (bit.ly, tinyurl...) that hide the destination.
  • Address with numbers For example, 185.23.10.4Instead of a name.
  • Words of Emergency in the address: check, unlock, refund, invoice.
  • without HTTPS. Eye: The padlock only encrypts the connection, does not guarantee that the web is legitimate.

How to use our tool

  1. Copy the link without opening it: On the mobile, keep pressed and select “Copy link”.
  2. Paste the link into “Suspicious links” The free panel of Ovnar.
  3. Read the result: Where does it really take and what risk signs it has.
  4. Before the doubt, don’t open it: You enter by writing the official address or using the app.

What if I opened it?

Opening a link, by itself, rarely causes damage. The problem is what you do afterwards: if you have written passwords, codes or data on your card, exchange them already and call your bank. If you download something, don’t open it and throw it off.
